Ways to induce Hypnosis for Therapy: The state of hypnosis in simple words is a state of being when the brain relaxes and the mind is calm. So calm that it is easy to gain access to the subconscious part of the mind which otherwise is difficult to reach when awake. The experience of hypnosis is similar to the trance-like state that a person experiences when reaching deeper levels of meditation.
The hypnotic state that a hypnotherapist induces for the purpose of therapy is nothing but a deepened level of relaxation, wherein the conscious mind sleeps in the sense that it becomes inactive, the person still being aware and not asleep. At the same time the unconscious or the subconscious mind awakens, takes control or in other words becomes active to express itself, to accept suggestions and modifications that lead to the achievement of goals and personal benefits
Often people associate pendulum to hypnosis and consider that to hypnotize them the therapist must use a pendulum or if a person has a pendulum, then they must be into hypnotising people. Not undermining the fact that pendulum has multiple usage, its use is not just restricted to hypnotism.
There can be various ways for rendering a persons conscious mind inactive and making the subconscious active. The pendulum is one of the oldest but not the only way to induce hypnosis.

Techniques used to induce Hypnosis for Therapy
Following are some of the common induction techniques used by any hypnotherapist during therapy sessions.
- Using power of words. Verbalising powerful positive suggestions, directed towards the conscious mind of the client that it creates an overload of message units within the conscious mind, almost forcing it to give up control, thereby opening the doors to the subconscious.
- Music is another powerful tool. It not only touches the soul, but also heals the mind. Just like there is music to put you in a meditative state, there is also music that can put you into a hypnotic trance. (Hypnotic music is often used in fitness clubs and gymnasiums, popularly under the category of workout music).
- Using repetition of words and acts is also a common way to induce the state of hypnosis. For example providing a suggestion combined with a repetition of forward and backward counting or creation a play of suggestions making the client open and shut their eyes until the conscious mind gives up control paving way into the subconscious part of the mind, where healing is initiated.
There can be many ways to induce hypnosis, depending upon the creativity of the therapist and the responsiveness of the client.

That’s interesting that some music could help you reach a hypnotic state. I would think that would definitely help you to relax and become more open to it. I’ll have to make sure to try someone that would use music as well if I decd to try hypnotherapy.
I never knew that music can put someone in a hypnotic trance. My brother is thinking about being hypnotized for success in life and in his work. I’ll have to share this with him as he continues to search for a good hypnotist.
