Our ancestors have known this heavenly body called Sun in many ways. Most of us know, in the olden days, Sun was regarded as a symbol of sacred life. A source of survival and well-being. Sun still remains central to numerous races and cultures, around the world.

The evidence is everywhere, written in stones, spoken in words, experienced through senses. The depiction of Solar motifs, Sun discs, Sun Deity, remains of Sundials at historical sites, support similar stories.  The ancient Sun temples, monuments, sculptures, are great examples, highlighting the practice of Sun worship.

In many civilizations, Kings claimed their descent from the Sun God. In India, kings claiming their descent from Sun God were known as Suryavanshi. Lineage from the SunGod was not just restricted to the Royals, but also claimed by many indigenous tribes. The lineage continues to be recognized, in many parts of the country, even today.

Sun’s Energy as known to our ancestors

The Shamans knew the greatness of the Sun too. From the time, when there were no such institutions like schools or universities, no labs or fields to conduct experiments nor any infrastructure to support the studies. For instance, Nature was the school, and learning was based on the observation of Nature with its elements.

Our ancestors were well aware of the healing properties of the Sun, calculation of times of the day based on Sun shadows, including usage of sundials. Our late grandmothers knew how and when to utilize the sun’s energy for drying vegetables and herbs, preparing pickles, tinctures, medicinal oils, or sun-charged water.

The use of sunlight and sun rays still holds immense significance in alternative medicine like Pranic healing, naturopathy, and Yoga. Be it age-old Vedic astrology or new age western astrology, Sun still continues to hold a prime position in casting horoscopes and assessing other planetary movements.

Exposure to the natural world was both a way of living and a lifestyle hard to escape. The relationship of man and the wild was intricately woven by the very nature and environment, they lived in.

Future of Sun practices

From a young age, we learn, how plants grow with the help of air, water, and sunlight. As we got older, our minds gather greater details about the same Sun. Likewise, our knowledge further expands, informing us of the position of the Sun in the Universe. As time and science progress, more avenues open up, giving way to new theories and greater research. Be it the harmful effects of the UV rays or sun exposure leading to skin cancer or damage to the eyes. From primitive times, all the way up to the present era, the Sun is still the same. The difference lies in the expansion of our knowledge about it, through the passage of time.

Future of Sun practices

The knowledge of Sun worship and practices have passed over generations. Initially, as inheritance and later through adoption by those who revered and believed in the practices. Our forefathers understood it, long before it got filtered down to us through books, as knowledge. The golden rays of the rising Sun were known to cure many diseases. A certain amount of exposure to the Sun was considered good for overall health and a stable mind, body, soul connection.

The growing interest and popularity of Sun practices, Yoga, and Sungazing promise, a brighter future. For instance, the rising curiosity towards Sun worship aims towards the revival of a forgotten world. This gradual shift towards forces of nature supports the beginning of a New Age, a New Era. The return of the Gold from the Old.
